This work, which took place in Spring 1989 in South Tyrol, was born with a practical purpose.
It had to contain a sliding mountainside that could have blocked the underlying river, thus increasing the risk of flash floodings. (non capisco il senso – bisognava aumentare il rischio di flash floodings?)
I designed a reinforced concrete bone structure that would remain exposed only for the duration of the works. It was meant to symbolise and expose the ribcage of the mountain. After a couple of months a program of reforestation would conceal the wound and the inner structure, and the mountain would reacquire its pristine aspect.
