2010 Landscaping the sea (Sardinia)

Landscape designing the sea: how many opportunities in a lifetime would you get to do this?

Over the years, the mussel farmers’ cooperatives in the Bay of Olbia had invaded the sea with a multicolored chaos of buoys, that made recreational boating particularly hazardous after sundown and which themselves had difficulty to navigate.

I found particularly challenging to choose a geometric and chromatic arrangement that might be enticing both from sea level and from above, as seen from the deck of passing ferries.
Only when it was completed, I discovered that it reminded me of Damien Hirst’s medecine cabinets. How strange!
